RAIN or shine

Anyone who has seen Rain’s “I’m Coming” video would either love it or hate it. I admittedly, am in the first category. Shameless, I know. But OMG that boy is HOTT… Seriously.

Perhaps it’s the dance moves, the tight abs (this is a heated tak puas hati issue among the people i know -- whether its an 8pack, 6pack or only flat.. seriously guys, tak kisah lah.. so irrelevant), the combat trousers, the wings, the fire, the sunglasses, the whole image. Oh, it could also be the singing. Whatever it is, I have in my physical possession his concert ticket. When MBF obtained our tickets, I only knew 1 song – okay, honestly that statement is inaccurate – I only knew the hot guy in THAT video.

I DID mention shameless earlier what…

The first time I saw his video I was just stunned -- I couldn’t peel my eyes off the telly screen, too amazed to speak or think (things veered into a happy place and turned slightly blonde). I don’t think that it is the best video or the best song ever made but to me, that is one of the hottest videos I have ever watched. And temperature in this context, is highly dependent on the singer’s own heat. Personally, the fact that he’s Asian made it even more delish. Pop globalisation in reverse.

Oh. And no, Nakata is so not gay. Seriously.

During our roadtrip to Alor Setar for a good friend’s wedding a few days later, the topic of THAT video cropped up every now and again. At the hotel, during the mini trips, on the way back (NOT during the wedding ok LH, promise. Impossible anyway, eh?). Heck… MBF and I unabashedly enjoy delving into that topic until today.

I think music videos are important to boost the popularity of songs. A clear example would be how PCD’s provocative videos shot them to fame. Else than Nicole, who are the other members of the Dolls? Not sure of their names? My point exactly. But I’m sure you know they’re a bunch of hot limber chicks who are quite the entertainers with chairs. Kan?

That said, there are also non-provocative kind of videos that contribute to a song’s popularity – some examples would be Christina Aguilera’s Hurt which to me complements the song but cleverly ironically surrounds circus environment; Coldplay’s The Scientist where the video was all backwards; Nicole in the signature red-soled Christian Louboutin shoes with P Diddy in Come to Me (okay, so I have heightened sense for shoe-awareness...); and the list goes on.

In my own roundabout way, what I’m actually trying to say is, different styles of video appeal to different people. You might love it or despise it. I don’t impose for others to enjoy what I take pleasure in; neither do I think this little concert indulgence calls for justification.
