So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish
How I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here
This is the lyrics to one of my favourite songs.
Songs are subject to personal interpretation and it took me a while to appreciate the words. This song is special and it makes me want to listen to it repeatedly. It IS a sad song, but I think it’s superb, do have a listen to this song -- Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
To me this song is about internal conflict regarding absence and how to cope with it. The sound and the lyrics both astoundingly manage to form the overall sense of loss and emptiness. It evokes a kind of miserable yet mellow emotion. No complicated layers of music, yet amazingly beautiful in its simplicity. It just makes me want to feel…
Misjudgment and absence.
Choices made based on what one knows. But usually there are more to it than what one knows.
Choosing Death; it forces the living to consider the options and make choices. Yet the living is torn between moving on or dying, because the dead is terribly missed.
Their souls are finding a way to be together, but failing.
That's what I think. What do you think?
(And no, I'm NOT under the influence..)
Well, have a great weekend!!!

Since we're into the theme of losing someone dear to us in songs, I do find songs with a depressive them more interesting and entertaining. U are spot on when u mentioned that 'wish you were here' was about what you do to deal with a loss/death of a friend. In the case of this pink floyd song, from what i read, the songwriter did lose a very close friend of his at the time of writing this piece. I love the song too. I'd recommend you to download another song on losing somebody, it's by Chris Cornell 'wave goodbye' it's more direct than 'wish you were here' but it's dealing with the same issue. And of course Chris Cornell rocks! Trust me on this Ro!
feelin emo is it?
lan,
chris who? ok ok, i'll look it up..
gravt,
no lah. i just enjoy the song.. for the record i wasnt born yet at the time they come out with the album.. LOL..
Dearest Chocpot,
i dont thk ive heard that song before, or it might be the case where ive heard it but i didnt know that THAT is the song, or maybe when i tuned on the radio, they have finished playing the song....anyways, u must let me listen to it soon.
i think that song is also about choices u make in life - "and did u exchange, a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage". sumthing like you may face danger or u might die in war but ull be free to fight the war the way u want it, with courage, dignity maybe and for a cause, war is always about or for a cause. a cause that we believe in. and a role that we play, might be sumthing that is we have to put on, a smile which is forced, doing things for others maybe as it is based on a script, but then u might be trap under people's directives or wishes....oh well, i dont know.
and 2 souls swimming in a fish bowl.. ummmm two lost souls trying to find their own way in this world but might end up with each other as they have common fears and background...and always missing each other along their way in life...destiny...they called it destiny!
i wonder who is my d e s t i n y
pretty
